Thirteen age groups, two categories, one God-fearing team. This is how the approximately four hundred-member Cubs and Hobbits team is structured. The Mums and Pops Ministry led by Sis. Precy Saavedra in collaboration with the Cubs and Hobbits Team Leader, Sis. Melody Aquino have been molding children for more than twenty years through organizing the Sunday School for kids and they are now progressing towards greater goals.
It is recognized that diversity in teaching approaches made specific to each age group is essential which is why the children have been grouped into two categories - the Cubs, aged one to seven, and the Hobbits, aged eight to twelve. Along with this, the Sunday School area (aka Cuneta Astrodome’s dugout) and the teaching methods have evolved into a classroom-like landscape. A Teacher’s Aide is also assigned to assist the children and the teacher as well. With this strategy, the children can easily be familiar with the environment and can adapt almost instantly.
It is with fervent intent that children be equipped with right values, with raised levels of consciousness about God and be guided along the path of Christianity. This seed is rooted in love and faith and is nurtured by the friendships that they are able to form in the process especially with the support of their teachers and parents.
After a series of Sunday School sessions, students, and teachers alike gather to celebrate the graduation. Activities such as role-plays and quiz bees take place to enable each age group to show what they have learned. The Bible says: “You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what He has promised” (Heb. 10:36). In the same sense, the group believes that awards, even in their simplest forms, can encourage the children to study and can help them boost their standing in Faith.
Aside from Sunday School, the children also participate in various outdoor activities. The peak-of-the-year event for the Cubs and Hobbits is the “Family Fun Day” where they can choose from a wide variety of sports and games, do what they do best and just enjoy the whole day with their loved ones. On a regular basis, the soft yet powerfully touching voices of these children can also be heard during the praise and worship part of our Sunday Service. After which they proceed to the dugout for their Sunday School Classes.
When a Hobbit turns thirteen and outgrows the team, he is then encouraged to become a Teacher’s Aide. This becomes an opportunity for him to share his fun experiences with the erstwhile team while he transitions to become a member of the Nugen team.
Future goals will definitely be set. With full faith and enthusiasm, implementing changes, and upgrading methods to make the Word of God enjoyable and unforgettable as it should be for the next generations of Cubs and Hobbits are envisioned.
